Meet the Crazy Snail Ladies!
We are Morgan Myrick and Sara Murphy and we are the Gals of Gorgeous Gastropods.
We’re a small, family-owned business comprised of just a twin and her twin. We started this business to spread our love of (and addiction to) aquatic snails across the nation. Over the years, we’ve amassed an incredible amount of knowledge and experience that we love to spread around like glitter.
We’re hobby breeders of numerous species of freshwater snails and we strive for exceptional genetics and quality in all of our snails. We also breed a few varieties of neocaridina davidi shrimp, grow several varieties of low-tech aquatic plants, and culture live fish food (scuds). Morgan has even created a few mineral compounds that help our snails, shrimp, and plants look beautiful and thrive. She has also developed a specially formulated food for Blueberry Snails! We believe in quality over quantity, so you’re unlikely to see a large amount of sninventory.
We’re very passionate about all the things we do and so excited to spread our joy and enthusiasm to everyone in this wonderful hobby!
Our Backstory:
My twin sister and I started this shop to spread our addiction to aquatic snails across the nation. Morgan’s addiction started in 2019 with her first Mystery Snail, a Gold Inca named Kaiju. Kaiju was so entertaining, Morgan would find herself sitting and watching her for hours (and sometimes got Sara to come over and watch her snenanigans too). It wasn’t long before Morgan set up a second tank so she could have MORE Mystery Snails, and then a third, and then a fourth, and so on. While Sara’s appreciation started with Kaiju, she didn’t get fully sucked in until she fell in love with one of Morgan’s snabies, who she named Lollipop, and then quickly fell down the rabbit hole as well.
Fast forward to 2025; now we have both fallen victim to Multiple Tank Syndrome. Between our two homes, we have 16 heavily planted tanks in pretty much all of the communal living spaces in both of our houses. All with varying colors and species of aquatic snails, shrimp, plants, and fish.
We’ve been selling our snails, plants, shrimp, and scuds locally since 2021. So many of our customers were so impressed with the health and quality of our creatures and plants that they encouraged us to open a store. So, we began extensively researching how to ship our plants and each variety of animal we sell. This took a few years before we felt like we could confidently ship live plants and animals as safely and humanely as possible. We purchased reinforced insulated boxes, heat packs, cold packs, fancy fish bags, sturdy containers, etc. We opened our first online shop in January of 2025 and haven’t looked back! We made over 400 sales and had 100% 5 star reviews by June on our first selling platform before we got shut down (if you’ve joined our Facebook group, you know the story.) After that, we started our very own website. And here we are! We still sell to many people and stores locally, as well as online. Out here in rural Colorado, we’re heralded as the ladies with the gorgeous snails. All of the employees at every live fish store within 80 miles of us know us by name, lol.
*We are also the proud originators of many of the popular, snail-themed vocabulary words, like: snenanigans, sneggs, snabies, snildren, snadolescents, sneenagers, snubstrate, snex, snexy time, snexual maturity, snorgies, snenis, snooha, snorno, snornado, snotum pole, and more!
