Anacharis Elodea Densa ~ Freshwater Aquatic Plants

$5.95

This listing is for 3 bare-root stems, between 4 and 6 inches long. They’re cuttings from our plants growing in our community tanks. Not gonna lie, they may contain some hitchhikers like ramshorn snails, bladder snails, limpets, and maybe even some shrimplets. We do our best to remove any hitchhikers we see, but we may not get them all. If you want to avoid adding any of those things to your tank, we recommend researching the different methods of plant dipping. On to the plant info!

Anarcharis, also known as Elodea Densa, Egeria, or Brazilian Waterweed, is THE Perfect Beginner’s Aquarium Plant! It’s a hardy aquarium and/or pond plant that’s super easy to grow. It can be grown either floating in the water or rooted in the substrate. It thrives in a wide range of water temperatures and lighting conditions, making it a popular choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists.

Difficulty Level: Beginner
Growth Rate: Fast
Lighting Requirements: Low/Moderate/High
Co2: Not Necessary
PH: 6.5 to 8.0
Temperature: 60 - 82F
Placement: Background or Floating
Substrate (if planting): Gravel, Aquasoil, or Large-grain Sand
Propagation: Float or Plant Cuttings
Height: 20+ inches
Color: Bright Green

Anacharis is an excellent oxygenator! It also helps to improve water quality by absorbing excess nutrients thus helping to reduce algae growth. That said, you do still need to do partial water changes regularly to maintain water quality and prevent nutrient buildup.

While Anacharis tolerates high light, overdoing it can encourage algae growth, especially on older stems. If algae becomes a problem in your tank, trim back any algae covered areas and consider lowering your light’s intensity. Anacharis also tolerates low light, it just results in slightly slower growth and a less bright shade of green.

Although Anacharis plants have a reputation of being adaptable and easy to grow, keep in mind they will typically melt back a bit and have some yellow leaves initially until they adjust to your fish tank.

Please note:
The leaves will likely melt back some initially, don’t worry this is common and happens often with many aquatic plants after being introduced into a new tank. After the initial melt, new leaves will grow and the plants will get bigger before you know it.
