There are several benefits to incorporating crushed coral into your freshwater tank, and it’s something we highly recommend for any tank with snails and/or neocaridina shrimp!

Crushed coral can help to increase the hardness (kh) and ph of the water. This is particularly important for aquariums with invertebrates. Invertebrates, like snails and neocaridina shrimp, do best in an alkaline environment with ph above 7. Crushed coral can also help maintain a stable ph level over time. This is because it acts as a natural buffer, helping to prevent rapid fluctuations in ph that can stress and harm your inverts and fish.

Crushed coral is made up of primarily calcium carbonate, which is essential for the health of the shells and/or exoskeletons of your inverts. Calcium is also important for fish that rely on a strong skeletal structure, such as catfish and plecos. By releasing calcium into the water as it slowly dissolves, crushed coral can help to ensure that these creatures have the necessary nutrients to thrive.

Another benefit of crushed coral is that it can provide a natural substrate for plants to root and an ideal surface for beneficial bacteria to grow on in your aquarium. Acting as a biological filter, this beneficial bacteria helps to remove harmful toxins and waste products from the water, keeping it cleaner and healthier for all of your aquarium inhabitants.

Adding crushed coral to your aquarium is very easy. You can either mix it in with your substrate, or put it into an aquarium filter bag and add it to your filter. If you’re planning on adding crushed coral to your aquarium, it’s important to research the specific needs and preferences of your fish species and other inhabitants, and to introduce the coral gradually to avoid sudden changes in water chemistry.

DOA Policy

Sorry, but there is no DOA coverage on this item as the product was not alive when we shipped it. If the item arrives alive, you may want to check the dosage on your medications, take a closer look at those mushrooms you bought at the store, and/or pray to your chosen deity because the end might be nigh. Also, if the product arrives alive, it is not eligible for a refund/replacement because the next one will likely arrive in the same condition and we can not be held responsible for animation of inanimate objects. And we certainly DO NOT want it back! We have more than enough lifeforms between the two of us and can’t take on anything new at this time. Just give it a name and make sure it’s potty trained because it is now your new pet. If you have read this all the way to the bottom, we like you! You’re our kind of weird.
