It takes a lot of skill and a fair amount of time to find the specific gender of mystery snail you want. On very rare occasions, it’s the first one we pull. More Often, we’re looking up the skirts of 10+ snails to find the right sex. And let me tell you, they don’t much want to show us the goods. We have to hold each snail for up to 5 minutes for them to stretch out in just the right way. It’s a whole thing. We do this 1-2 days before shipping, depending on the number of requests, and have to keep each person’s snails separate from the group. That’s a lot of breeder boxes lining the tops of our tanks 😅
Anyhoo, as far as we know, we’re the only vendors offering this service, and now we totally get why. It’s quite time consuming. This fee only applies to our mysteries because our other species of snails are exceptionally easy to sex. It’s an antenna thing and no peeping tom stuff is necessary. 😆
