Japanese Trapdoor Snails are highly sought after and very hard to find. These snails are excellent cleanup crew, rivaling nerites. We think they’re even better than nerites because they won’t “bedazzle” your tank with eggs. JTS are a live-bearing species that requires two separate genders to reproduce. The females on average give birth to 1-3 snabies at a time, about once per month, if bred with a male.
These snails can survive a wide range of tank conditions, making them one of the hardiest species of freshwater snail on the market. They will tolerate a pH range of 6.5 to 8.5, a temperature range of 50* to 85*F, and nitrates up to 80 (if tank bred).
All of our JTS are tank bred and raised in our own personal tanks. Their shell’s natural color can range from a pale beige colored to a dark olive green. You may have seen them from other sellers with a turquoise shell. That color, while lovely, comes from sanding off the outer protective layer of the shell and then exposing the snail to very poor water quality. We consider that abusive, so you won’t see any turquoise shells in our sninventory.
Your snails(s) will be sent to you via FedEx 2 Day and includes an insulated box and cold pack so your snail(s) will survive the heat, or hot pack to survive the cold, whichever is appropriate.
This listing is for 1 live snail that we have SELECTIVELY BRED in our homes for good genetic traits. As such, these snails are of the HIGHEST QUALITY.
We are hobby breeders; we breed and raise all of our snabies in our own heavily planted community tanks with other snails and fish. We aren’t commercial breeders with large tubs full of snails and we don’t buy and resell other people’s snails.
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:
We don’t do returns or exchanges. However, we do have a DOA guarantee. We guarantee that all of our snails, shrimp, and plants will arrive alive.
* * * In order to receive a DOA refund, we have to receive a picture within 2 hours of delivery (meaning when the package was dropped off at the provided address) showing the dead snail hanging limply out of its shell. The only other way to know your snail is dead, and not just in shipping shock, is to sniff it - which we (thankfully) can’t do from here. A short video showing you crushing the snail will also work.
* * * SITUATIONS THAT VOID THE DOA GUARANTEE * * *
1.) Choosing Ground Shipping at checkout. Ground Shipping takes longer to arrive, thus putting more stress on the creatures. If you choose USPS Ground, the DOA is voided.
2.) Package is unsuccessfully delivered on the first attempt (we ship to the address provided by you at checkout, it’s your responsibility to ensure the address is correct). If the shipping company is unable to deliver on the first attempt, the DOA is voided.
3.) Not opening your package immediately upon delivery. Once shipped, a tracking number is provided, it’s your responsibility to open it as soon as the package is delivered. If the package is not opened within 2 hours of delivery, the DOA is voided.
4.) Package is lost due to package thief. (If this happens, please contact your local USPS, UPS, or FedEx to file a claim)
5.) Not providing the above, required proof of death within the 2 hour time window. If proof that the snails you received from us arrived dead is not provided, the DOA is voided.
*We evaluate on a case-by-case basis and will make every reasonable attempt to be fair.
We ship live creatures on Tuesdays, so they don’t spend the weekend sitting in a shipping facility. We ship them primarily using USPS Priority 1-3 Day shipping. Our shipping charge includes insulated packaging with either a heat pack or cold pack as necessary.
Orders must be in by 8:00 pm MST (Mountain Standard Time) on Monday in order to ship that Tuesday. Orders placed after that will be shipped the following week.
