Polypterus Senegalus
These guys are currently about 7 inches long. They will grow to be 12 to 15 inches as adults and live for 10 to 25 years in captivity. A single Senegal Bichir needs a minimum of a 75 gallon tank with either bare bottom or fine substrate to prevent any intestinal blockage due to accidental ingestion. These adorable monster fish are carnivores and will need a varied diet of sinking carnivore pellets, cubed raw fish, live fish, high-quality frozen fish foods, etc. There are some dietary restrictions and vitamin supplemenation you should be aware of for all species of bichirs. Please do your research before you buy a bichir.
